The 3 Body Truths
The three body truths siphon down to - our physical body wants strength and stability while our nervous system craves safety.
How do we do that delicate dance? Let me explain…
Muscles, tendons, ligaments, and fascia tighten in response to areas of the body where there is instability, all in efforts to create stability.
Tightness, contraction, restriction. Your soft tissue is very good at this job as it is desperately trying to hold you together, to create stability…as you then get stuck in this pain patterning cycle of tightness and holding.
Not to mention the mindset shift to this pain patterning as you feel like your body is out of your control, while compensation patterns set in.
💪 Stability in the body is achieved by “working with your body” through proper movement and strengthening with modifications depending on the day and how your body feels.
💪 Our body responds to this strength and muscles loosen. Ahhh…
Now, I am the first person to tell you, both personally and professionally, there are many layers to chronic pain…
But what happens if you still feel tightness within your body even after you do all the right things by creating strength and stability?
The answer circles back to your nervous system.
We cannot expect to feel good in our body if we bypass our nervous system.
Tightness, contraction, restriction. Same story felt in the body but out of a response from an elevated nervous system. Stress lands and gets held in the body creating a ripple effect…as you then get stuck in this pain patterning cycle of tightness and holding. And the mindset shift here underneath it all after we pull back all the layers, most likely is fear.
How you hold stress, where you hold stress, how that effects your body, and how you release it is unique to you.
And fun fact (not so fun) if you experience chronic pain and migraines, your nervous system is already heightened because of the constant messaging to your brain.
Compassion, awareness, and connecting the dots is key if the messaging to your nervous system is to be on high alert so that you can fight, flee, or fawn. After all, your nervous system is there to keep you safe.
The great news is that new neural pathways and your response to stress can be developed so that you can have a healthy stress response within your body.
☺️ When you regulate your nervous system your body responds and again, muscles loosen. Ahhh…
When strength, stability, and safety are felt in harmony, it can look like this…
In times of stress, you know exactly how to honor and regulate your nervous system to decrease stress and anxiety so that you do not get thrown into the mental turmoil that goes round and round that otherwise gets held in your body.
